South African churche Building:shake tile stone coated metal roof
Project Info:

Overview of this stone coated metal roof project:
This project is a community church and event venue located in a suburban area of South Africa. The roofing work was completed in January 2023 during the local summer. The building features a clean white exterior paired with our brown shake style metal tiles, creating a simple and practical look.
Why the Client Chose Stone Coated Tiles:
The client’s decision was based on practical experience and local feedback rather than just design.
- Proven Local Reputation: The main reason the client chose stone-coated metal tiles is that many families in the surrounding neighborhood have been using them for years. Seeing the tiles hold up well on neighbors’ houses left a very positive impression on them.
- Natural Texture without the Hassle: They chose the Shingle profile because they liked the natural look of wood grain but wanted the durability and low maintenance of metal.
Project Features and Innovations:
A key innovation in this project is the switch from traditional clay tiles to Stone Coated Metal Roof Tiles. this material offers superior performance:
- Earthquake Resistance: Stone coated metal tiles are incredibly lightweight (only 1/6th the weight of traditional clay or concrete tiles). This significantly reduces the load on the building structure, making it much safer during seismic activity.
- Exceptional Durability: Made with a Galvalume steel core and natural stone chips, these tiles are designed to withstand harsh UV rays, heavy monsoon rains, and temperature fluctuations. They have a lifespan of over 50 years.
- Aesthetic Versatility: The tiles perfectly mimic the look of natural clay or wood but offer a more uniform and refined appearance. The stone chip coating adds texture and depth, preventing the “plastic” look of standard metal roofing.
- Weather Protection: The interlocking installation system provides superior resistance against high winds and prevents leaks, ensuring the interior remains dry even during intense rainy season.
- Ease of Transport and Installation: Located in a rural township, transportation can be challenging. These tiles are lightweight and easy to stack, lowering transportation costs and simplifying installation on the hillside site.
Design & Appearance:
The goal was to create a building that looks modern and clean without being overly flashy.
- Simple Color Match: The contrast between the white walls and the deep brown roof is a classic choice. It makes the building look neat and well-maintained under the bright South African sun.
- Clean Lines: The staggered pattern of the shingle tiles adds just enough detail to the large roof area, making it look solid and well-built.
Practical Performance:
Since the project was finished in the summer, the performance of the roof was immediately put to the test.
- Keeping It Cool: During the hot summer months, the stone coating helps reflect heat. This keeps the temperature inside the church at a comfortable level, which is important for large gatherings.
- No Fading: The South African sun is quite strong, but the high-temperature sintered sand ensures the brown color stays consistent without fading.
- Quiet During Rain: Even during heavy summer showers, the stone chips dampen the noise of the rain, so it doesn’t interrupt the peace inside.
Conclusion:
This South African church project shows that stone-coated metal tiles are a reliable and popular choice in the local community. It’s a practical solution that looks great and lasts for a long time.
